Mirror swap question 92-96 mirrors

I've seen several pics of dents with 92-96 F-150 sport style mirrors. I've done quite a bit of surfing and searching, and i still have a few questions. I was wondering what everybody did with the inner brace on them. Do they bolt to the inside of the doors like the newer trucks do? Do you just let them hang? Or do you cut the brace off and just mount them with the two bolts? My main concern is if the brace does not mount, will the door be too weak to support the mirror and warp out? My mirrors are coming tomorrow so it'd be great get some insight on the best way to mount them so I can get the mock up and fit on that done, and finish the body work on the doors.

You should drill a hole under the door panel for the brace mounted to the mirrors. They won't quite reach so you'll have to run a long bolt with some spacers. Without it they'll flop around as they are heavy. I looked into it but did not like how they run slightly up hill. Going to go with ranger mirrors myself.

That's what I figured I'd need to do I don't exactly like the angle either, so I was planning to play with them and space them to sit level. I'd considered the ranger mirrors, but they seemed like they'd be too small on my highboy. Thanks for the info!

You definitely want to keep the brace. You can buy a longer bolt for the brace and space it with washers or nuts between the inner door skin and the brace. I bolted mine directly up and it looks okay, but changed the angle of the mirror slightly. Not enough to make me want to change it, but YMMV.

Here's a pic of mine:

How did you figure out where you wanted your inner bolt hole?

I can't give you any good advice there.

I figured I'd "feel" my way to it with my fingers. It got me close, but Bad Idea.

By the time I finished, I had about 3 holes to choose from!

Gotcha lol do you have any close up pics of them mounted as to placement? I welded up all my old mirror holes today so I could start with a clean slate.

You could thread a stud into the brace, mount the mirror up from the outside, unscrew the stud inside the door until it touches the inner door panel, have someone hold the mirror outside and give the inner door panel a little whack with a hammer, the stud should leave a mark, center punch that and drill!

That's what I would do...

Got them on, figuring out the hole placement was pretty easy. Had to wallow out the first one, a little, but got the second, first try

Did you sit in the truck and check the vision out of them? They look like they'd be too low, unless you're vertically challenged, LOL

I thought they might be too low, but I sit up pretty tall and can see them fine, and actually have a better field of vision than before.

Nice, good for you getting them to sit level! I suppose that's down were you'll be looking at most cars anyway, been a few years since I've had a lifted truck, LOL
