Bought a 49 F1
Saw craigslist add for an F1, sent the wife a quick email with link. Subject line of "Project?" She said "Sure, do you want me to go look at it?" I told her "No, Brian (my brother) would be a better person to go and look." Since I am out of the country. I sent him a quick email asking if he had time to check it out. I was thinking, No way is he going to have time to do this, it's almost 11 pm there. My next email from him was "I'm on my way to check it out." 500 dollars later I now own an F1. He said "Your wife might kill you....and me for that matter."
I have been checking out the forum all day, reading and learning.
I can't wait to get home and check out the new project.

Meanwhile you can start forming a plan, even sight unseen. I posted my suggested method of assembling a build plan in this post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...1955-f250.html

Not sure about the understanding wife yet, she hasn't seen it other than the ad on craigslist. For 500 I did not expect much. I know that it is in roller status, no engine/trans, no interior, and it is mostly disassembled.
Possible good points depending on how it was accomplished.
1. The body is in decent shape - no major rust or body work will need to be done.
2. The ad listed that it was converted to A arms and disc brakes.
Since there is no drive train my plans are to work on the suspension and under carriage first and work on sourcing an engine/tranny/drive shaft/rear end. Plan is to get an 8.8 with disc brakes from an Explorer and install 3.55 or 3.73 gears. Undecided on the engine, it will be a Ford, SBF or BBF depending on what presents it self/if any other mods have been done to accommodate a BBF. Trans will be AOD.

First thing that caught my attention was the rot in the fenders at the running boards and in the upper fender by the lower fender. The section at the running board on the front fender is practically gone. There'll be some serious rust repair in those areas.

Hey O'Side,
Be nice to your doors & hood - you won't find any reproductions for those. You can find repro fiberglass fenders for around $265ea if you have too much rust. Rear beds are $1500 - $2000, running boards are available in steel & fiberglass.
We repaired our 1950 bed - all the stake pockets, etc. are available as parts as well. We went with the Explorer 8.8 rear axle like you are planning - $125 at a salvage yard with disc brakes & 3.73 gears.
Looks like a good start - don't get overwhelmed at first. Break it into small projects & try to get it running.
Good luck over there in California!
