I have been trying to get my subject truck running. I have replaced the fuel pump, put a kit in the carburetor, installed a Pertronics ignition module, replaced the plugs, and checked the wires (8mm) which were installed about 6 years ago previous to letting the truck sit up. I am drawing gas from a gas can in lieu of the tank. It starts and idles OK, but when the gas is depressed it starts to skip and blow black smoke. Yesterday I found about a gallon of gas in the oil pan. I suppose the gas may be getting through the carburetor somehow causing the skip and running in the oil pan. Any ideas? Thanks( Firing order 15426378)

I assume that the fuel pump you replaced was a mechanical pump, if so that was probably leaking fuel into the crankcase before you changed it. I would check the gap on the Petronix unit and also check the breaker plate for ease of movement. They can seize up over time and not allow for proper advance of the ignition timing. Good luck.

I checked the vaccum hose and the plate moves. I pulled the top of the carb and the float was in the bowl, so no overflow as I suspected might be the case. The obvious cause of the gas in the crankcase is left up to a bad fuel pump even though it's new. So, back to NAPA tomorrow. The Carburetor is a Motorcraft, the tag says it's a (D2TF JB), also the tag has (A 2E 17) on the bottom. Can't find any of these numbers that will cross reference for a replacement Carb.

Sounds like you have a 2BBL carb then. Full tag number would be D2TF9510JB then. The 2BBL kits were all the same back then. Your local parts store should be able to sell you a kit without a tag number.
