Cracked Exhaust Manifold on 223

The '55 I've traded for has a crack in the exhaust manifold. The only manifold I seen for sale had a crack in it too. Is this common for the 223 manifold? I remember Daddy brazing a broken exhaust manifold on a tractor back in the 60s. Is that a viable fix for this part? Hope to get it home this week and I'll get some pictures posted.

Yes, very common problem on 223's it seems, though all 3 I own are not cracked?
It can probably be welded by someone experienced. I have arc welded one exhaust manifold (not pretty) which is still holding so far....

That was mine on ebay last week, I have good ones but they sell for a lot more than the cracked one did!

That's an issue for all 215/223/262 exhaust manifolds. I have two that weren't cracked and sold them before knowing that they commonly crack. I ended up needing one to replace the cracked manifold on my 215 when the motor was rebuilt. Every exhaust manifold I found was cracked. I finally purchased one that wasn't too bad and had it repaired.

Big M Automotive in Willits, CA has dozens of exhaust manifolds still on the engines. When I was there several months ago, he quoted me $125 for an uncracked manifold.
