i'm sure you're aware of the factory auto-locking hub vs. manual aftermarket hub decision you need to make then, haha.

both times my axleshaft issues happened i didn't have to do the inner axle seal, so not sure what that entails time/money-wise. i need to do glow plugs before the temps drop... maybe a working GTG real soon is in order.

The seal is cheap, but you have to drop the carrier out of the diff, so if you hold off on the inner seal you will have to take everything back apart.

I'm one for taking it apart once. Need to do a gear swap too Andrew. Maybe we can at least get the front end back in order and leave the hubs unlocked until we can do the rear gears. At least it would be driveable.

Ok well lets see if we can get a parts list together so I can see what price we are looking at. I would we willing to do a working GTG and do the front gear swap while we are in there. Just have to look at finances.

Man I would like to talk the guys on the Jeep forums like we all talk here. We can pretty much throw out any question and get honest answers that make sense, as opposed to questioned as to why you would want to do the things the question is about.

We all know that I eventually want an ls1 and a 4L60E in my Jeep. My question was about gearing for that now so I didn't have to regear again later. Instead of constructive answers I get questioned as to why I want an LS motor instead of a stroker 4.0L. My standard answer has become "because I can".

What do you guys think? LS1 mostly stock so about 350hp, 4L60E trans, already have dana 44 rear, and the front axle would most likely be replaced with a 44 unless I put RCV axles in the 30. Mostly, well ok the only playing I do with it is in the sand, so it get driven on the street. Would you think 4.10 and 33's would be good, which should make 4.56 and 35's good in proportion......

What's your thoughts?

a college roomate of mine had a 4.6 in a TJ. it was quick, but not a neck-snapper by any means. he put factory rubicon 44's under it with 35's with the 4.10's that came in them. i think the gearing was about right given that setup, but like i said i wasn't overly impressed with the output of the stroker. so i'm with ya on the LS (besides, who wouldn't rather listen to a rumbling V8 over a six-holer??), and i think that motor/gear/tire combo would get down.

there is no question about the ls1

Everything I read in the Jeep forums says 4.88's with 33's and its good to go. I can tell you I had 4.88's and 35's on the 07 and that thing screemed at 3000 rpms on the highway (70 mph). Based on that I was thinking 4.10 on 33's for this Jeep with the auto.

From what all I've read, the LS is lighter than the 4.0, and easily twice the horsepower.

I'm also torn between going to either the 33's or 35's, would need to add a 1" body on the 35's. It currently has 31's on it

LS over the stroker six for sure. When it blows up it's a lot easier/ quicker/ and probably cheaper to get a replacement from the boneyard then re machine another 4.0. A stoked 4.0 is all she wrote power wise from that platform. An LS is already at that level and will support a lot more power. But if you really want to do this right I do have a 302 in the garage( sorry, couldn't resist)

I have already thought of going to Ford power, mainly to be different. But my OCD and being very **** will have to have the inertior be stock and all the factory gauges work. With the ford power I would need all aftermarket gauges.

Nobody make a "kit" like they do for the LS to swap into the later model Jeep.

That would be sweet, it's no Powerstroke diesel, but I'd drive it that way... Far as tire size where do you wheel at besides the dunes? If it's a sand toy I would just run the 33's, no real benefit to the 35's, get away with the D30 front axle.
