Can someone identify this part?

I'm working on replacing my passenger side exhaust manifold. There is a tube that comes out of the front of the manifold that bends upward and has what looks like some kind of valve attached to it. I'm wondering what it is and if it can be removed altogether or if it has to stay. I've attached pictures of what I'm talking about. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

that is ur EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation) u don't necessarily need it unless u have emissions laws and inspections. u would have to make a block off plate and weld a plug in the manifold

I'd keep it, removing it will cause your highway mpg to go down.

Awesome thanks!

I noticed that there is an electrical connection on it, will removing it blow a CEL code? Also, the New manifold has a bolt screwed in to where the egr goes. Can I just make sure the bolt is tight and leave it or does it need to be welded?

It will set a code. There really is no reason to leave it off.
