If it is your turbo, get it cleaned!

I bought this to clean it up with: 3M/2 in. drill mounted automotive grinding sanding and finishing system (03050NA) | Sander and Accessories | AutoZone.com_
Also got the kit from Ford to re-install the turbo (bolts, gaskets, O-rings, whatnot) Also an updated oil drain pipe. That should pretty much do it?

I used a drill with basically the same kit. Be careful cleaning around the vane posts. I wedged my pad in between the wall and posts and the post snapped off.
My turbo was pretty bad with rust. Finally found the snapped off post and found it had been rusted half way through, which made it easy to snap off.
So, just be aware of where you are working.

Sorry about that! LOL
Just know to go easy around them. And, I'm the only one that I have seen that has done this. So, it's a me thing, not an everyone thing!!!
My drill has a torque setting on it. I didn't bother lowering it from the last time I was using it. If I had only done just that!
Oh, well, I am enjoying the New Powermax turbo!!!!

I think I might have this problem too. The video was a great tutorial, thanks. My truck was severely lacking in power last Thursday while pulling the boat home. Did great going to the lake, just lacked power going home. I also noticed that the boost gauge was spiking abnormally high. With the last couple of months, I've also noticed an increase in black smoke out the pipe when fuel is applied. I haven't noticed any other noises, but my wife said it sounded like the engine had a small rattle in it. I don't know if she was complaining about the diesel because she thinks it's a loud truck.
Couple of questions for you guys:
1. I have decent technical experience, I'm a fuel system technician in the Guard on F-16s. Is this project within my technical expertise?
2. How long should the job take?
3. While doing some reading on installing a new turbo, approximately 3 ounces of new engine oil was to be added while turning the shaft by hand. Should this same process be done when reinstalling the original? If so, can you add too much oil?
4. What would be the parts list I would need to do this?
Thanks for the response, I did do the appropriate searches but this is the best thread I found that seems to fit what I am looking for. Sorry for the long drawn out questions. I'm trying to exhaust all possible outcomes to save the money. We all know how tight money is these days.
Thanks again.
