Thats a heft charge too. Im doing 800 grain bronze allow bullets with 225grn smokeless through a 32" barrel. It is brisk to say the least!

That it is Tim. 550gr ball, 75gr double f powder in a 40 plus inch long barrel no rifling at all.

I forgot they were smoothbores. Whats the effective range on those?

Effective accurate range was about 50 yrds. they could reach out to maybe 100 if you were lucky but it was not garanteed to hit the broadside of a barn at 50yrds. One trick is to aim low and skip the ball off the ground in a competition to hit the target.
