Pyro probe location

I'm looking at ordering a pyro and looking for input on where would be the best location for the probe, pre turbo or post turbo. The truck has factory exhaust but im sure I will add 4" sometime in the near future. Also what temps I should expect to see, I do not run a tuner and do not have a tuned ficm. Picture would be appreciated if possible.
Thanks

Put it pre-turbo in the driver side exhaust manifold.

If the truck is stock I doubt you will see over 1200 degrees.

Mine is in the rear of the drivers side manifold and I have seen near 1400 when I wasn't paying attention. I try to keep it below 1300 when towing.
That is based on the temperatures given in the Tech Folder: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-pressure.html

I drilled from underneath with a small bit and gradually increased the hole size so there were no large cuttings that could enter the manifold. Tap carefully with a greased tap and test often so you don't cut the thread too big and bottom out the fitting. You will need a tap holder with a 3/8 drive and a long extension. A pair of goggles is also a good idea, the cuttings will fall on you!

Why is is desirable, and/or necessary to go in from the bottom? Thanks!

I'm not with the truck right now but I don't think you can reach the top of the elbow. Is it back under the firewall?

It's a clean shot from below but protect the eyes!

I didn't bother greasing a tap. I started with a pilot bit and then drilled to the bit size for the 1/8 NPT tap. Then I tapped it dry. Gravity means the chips will fall down. I think I did put the shop vac over the hole and then installed the thermocouple.

Sounds good. Any gauge brands to stay away from? I'm looking at 52mm analog gauges hopefully a factory match style.

The Autometer Ford factory match look good. I've got the AM boost gauge.

My pyrometer is through my Edge CS

Autometer is my first choice. The GlowShift also looked interesting but I've not heard much about them. I plan on running a dual pod with pyro and fuel pressure since they are not available with the SGII. Also have to figure out if I want an overhead or A-pillar pod.

Not a great picture but this is my overhead pod. The white gauge is just one I had laying around to fill the hole.

Thanks for the picture, I think I'm going with the overhead pod. It always helps seeing a picture.

I use glow shift led gauges and my only complaint is your can't dim them & they are way bright! I switched the pyro to auto meter for 4 digit readout.

Curt, those Glowshift gauges look nice, how is the quality compared to the Autometer?

build quality is fine, I wanted 4 digit with no multiplier for the pyro so went with auto meter. Both are bright enough to see them in full sunlight. I switch them off, for the night trips. I have pre/post turbo same gauge, 2 sensors/switch. The post turbo has been over 800 in the mountain's and cools slower than the pre turbo sensor.
