Rocking chair drivers seat repair
I am sure I am not the only one with this issue.
My seat has been trying to drop me into the back seat of my extra cab. My truck is a 90 model, but I would imagine it is a similar procedure on other models.
I pulled the seat out and removed the arm rest. There is a cable that runs from the armrest to the bottom seat cushion with a nut on it. undo it and a bolt in the armrest. Once it is removed there is an allen screw that is used to hold a shaft sleeve and to adjust the arm rest to a comfortable spot. Remove those pieces.
Unzip the bottom of the seat back and gently lift the foam and fabric. Undo the 3 exposed bolts on the sides to separate the back from the bottom.
The steel back plate is welded to other thin sheet metal and tears at the weld. There is a pocket for strength in between the plates and foam cushion. I clamped c-grip pliers to hold the pieces back together. Then I drilled a series of staggered holes along the welds and pop riveted the steel back together.
I re installed everything and put the seat back in the truck. So far it is good as new.
