239 Ignition Timing

239 Ignition Timing
Hi,
I am trying to get my 239 OHV up and running. But the mechanic that is going to help me doesn't know anything about Y blocks.
He needs to know the following:
1) Cylinder locations 1-8
2) Cylinder locations on Distributor cap
3) Distirbutor rotation (CW or CCW)
4) Tune Up Specs (points gap, dwell gap, spark plug gap ect.)
And anything else that you think is important that I forgot.
Thank You,

Sounds like a good mechanic, and I'm not being sarcastic. It is good that he asks these questions and does not make assumptions.
Cylinder numbering.
So we are on the same page, the water pump is the front, the flywheel is the back, the distributor is the right, the oil pump is the left.
On the right bank, numbered from front to back, 1, 2, 3, 4
On the left bank, numbered from front to back, 5, 6, 7, 8.
Firing order 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2
The distributor cap probably has a 1 near one of the terminals and that is where #1 should be. From there, follow the firing order, counterclockwise.
I don't remember the tune up specs, but I believe that is typical of any points equipped v8.
For stock cams, valve clearance, .019". About 1/4 turn of the adjuster screw loose from 0 clearance will get you real close.

Here is an image that might be helpful.
It was from this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...lp-please.html
I'm currently putting together my 239 Y-Block. I'm an amateur so I'm going very slow and asking lots of questions. My thread is in my signature.
Here are the distributor specs from the shop manual:
