Factory 1960 F250 tire size

Can anyone tell me what the factory size tires and rims were put on the 1960 Ford F250 4x4 trucks?

I’ve not seen any reference that distinguishes the 4wd options vs the 2wd options. There were five optional wheels in 1960, some with optional tire sizes. I’ll describe them individually.

The most common wheel I’ll suspect was the 16” x 6” one piece drop center in use since 1948. K-H 31282 or 43552, depending on which reference I cite, but both listed as Ford 7RD 1015B and NWRA X-40099. Why K-H changed their number I don’t know, but suspect it might be to reflect the emergence of tubeless tires during the era. These could have been fitted with either 6.50-16” 6 ply, 7.00-16” 6 ply, or 7.50-16” 6 ply tires.

A heavy duty 16” x 5.50F” semi-drop center two piece was another option. These have the Firestone RHP outer rims. They are Budd 60880-1, with Ford assigned number 8J 1007 and NWRA X-45045. Same tire options as above although I’d be inclined to include an 8 ply option.

The third is the 17” x 5.5” Budd 49380-1, Ford 7RY 1007 and NWRA X-45047. These have the Firestone RH-5° “widow maker” two piece semi-drop center rims. These could be fitted with either 7.00-17” or 7.50-17” 6 ply tires. If you have these please get rid of them.

Newly available since 1956 were true tubeless 15° type truck wheels that carried half inch sizing. The 17.5” x 5.25” Budd 70720 was offered first with Ford number B6D 1015A. That was soon replaced by Budd 73240 that got Ford number B8D 1015A. Both are NWRA X-45048. This wheel could be fitted with either a 7-17.5” 6 ply, an 8-17.5” 6 ply, or 8-17.5” 8 ply tire. The 7-17.5” size is NLA. I’ve had each of these Budd numbered wheels side-by-side and could see no differences in them.

The top of the line on trucks with higher gvwr was the 19.5” x 5.25” Budd 71410. Ford assigned number B6D 1015B and NWRA X-45049. These were fitted with 8-19.5” 8 ply tires. Stu

If you have your own 1960 F-250 4wd we’d like to see pictures and know about it. Unless I’m late to the party. It’s one of our favorite trucks. Stu

I don't own the truck, it is one that is for sale it has not been running or driving for a while so I'm not sure if I want to buy it. Could you give me a range of about how much a truck like this would be worth? It is a little rusty but appears to be mostly there and not completely rotted out, it has a 292 with a 4 speed in it.

Gosh, I see you live in Iowa which says it’ll have rust, and as a breed they are rust prone. I’ve got a buddy that I’ll text who has one and see if he’ll comment. Stu

In my opinion the value of this truck will depend on a couple things. Your idea of value will be different than mine but I will give it a try. Complete junk with clean title to me is worth $400. A t-case and front axle should be worth that. One just sold on Sioux falls CL for $800. No title, did not run or drive. Pretty much complete with normal rust. Cab floors, foot wells and rear of front fenders. It was a f100 and first year 59. I was a player but it sold pretty fast. 2 day fast. One sold on a Nebraska auction a while back, don't recall 100 or 250 or title status but same deal. Rust, not running driving or braking. Sold for $1800. To high in my opinion. Anything over 2k should run drive and stop in my opinion. Anything without title or sketchy title and is locked up/sitting for years is just what the parts are valued at. F250 is worth more as well in my opinion than a f100. Pics would help greatly, and keep in mind it's just my 2 cents. Location also matters. Seen a 59 f250 POS sell at auction for 400 if I recall. Not one good body panel and a REALLY HURT front axle. Seen it resale on eBay for 2k iirc. What I mean by location is someone somewhere else might think it holds more value than I do just because of supply and demand if you get my drift.

Nice truck, and has the door gussets saying it’s real. Thanks for commenting Mark. Stu

It's not worth your time, just tell me how to get in touch with the guy so I can shame him for trying to take advantage of you!! Lmao. Seriously tho, that floor and foot wells don't look that bad to me. Seems to be missing the seat. No biggie, plenty of those around in yards. Like Stu said it's the factory 4x4 cab, they had after-thought gussets welded in. My initial thought was a grand. Not knowing engine, trans, t-case condition that would be a "safe" zone imho. Like I said before tho, if two people on eBay want it that price could easily double. To many variables come into play with price. If a guy has none he will pay more if he wants it. I have more than I need so it drives the price down for me. I also have spare parts so I can pay more if I want something because I can get it on the road cheap, plus do the work myself. I've seen worse sell for $1800-2000 but someone REALLY wanted them. I personally have bought better for $1500. If the motor is loose and the title is clear, no weird noises when it rolls it should bring between $1000 to $1500 every day of the week. Less than that I think would be a great deal, more than that might be a gamble. Again, just my opinion, hope it helps and good luck.

One more thought. It appears to be in a salvage yard which to me says someone dropped it off for salvage? Why? And if that's the case it was BOUGHT for salvage price. Keep that in mind if your dealing with a yard boss. My opinions are also based on the passenger side looking like the drivers side.

The guy said that he has the factory bumpers and the seat and he wants $2750 for it now he doesn't seem to know much about it just says that he bought it this spring and doesn't have the time to mess with it, but says that the engine is free. Thanks for all the information it is really helpful.

A couple things about that statement that are troublesome. Bought it in the SPRING and doesn't "know much about it" and doesn't "have time for it"? Unless you are loaded or want this thing so bad you can't sleep I would pass at $2750.
I have bought many trucks that I didn't have time for but I still have them, and if you buy something in the spring wouldn't you know something about it in December?

Thanks that kind of confirms what I was thinking I mean I would love to own the truck but there are just so many unknowns, and it almost sounded like it would need new tires, and I have been reading about the 292 having giving trouble after sitting awhile and he said that the last time it was registered was late 90-early 2000. if you were to buy it what do you think would be a fair price?
