WARNING! Debit cards and credit cards do NOT have the same rights and protections. Making a purchase with a debit card is just like writing a check out of your bank account, once it is "cashed" you are on your own. If you are going to do much online purchases, get a low limit CREDIT card and use that just for those purchases, then immediately pay the CC bill with your debit card or direct bank transfer if you wish. There are plenty of banks that will give you a 500.00 limit CC with a max interest rate even if you have poor/no credit (they may require you to keep a 500.00 min balance in a bank account with them to secure it), If you pay it off immediately the interest rate shouldn't matter, but be sure you read the agreement VERY carefully or ask questions about when the charge start accruing interest, the worst ones start charging interest from the day the charge is made, they have no 30 day grace period.

Sorry to hear this. I hate it when people mess with something you're passionate about. I guess one would assume they were into these trucks at some point....it's one thing to lose interest in your business and another to get rippped off by someone you thought shared your passion.. Unfortunately, it seems to be one of the pitfalls of this hobby. Gotten ripped myself.

Thanks, very sound advice. I know better but got complacent after years with out incident. Generally use PayPal and CC's and you are correct about the protection from using these. I live in a very remote part of the country and just about everything I buy I get over the Internet, first time in a very long time I've been had! I mostly wanted to post a warning about these clowns to the next poor unsuspecting person wanting to make a purchase from John's. Again stay away from these guys! I should have known from the beginning that they were not on the up and up when the whole story about being on vacation came up. When I wanted something only they had my I put my protection feelers on hold, my fault!

To bad that this didn't work out, I would of probably ordered a headliner if it did. It is to bad that some venders just don't get it. I just had a deal go bad with rodpartsdealer on ebay, The ebay resolution center refunded my money.

I don't know the actual story with John's, but their business dealings sounds a lot like an under capitalized or garage retailer. They don't actually stock anything due to limited funds/poor credit, but collect orders until they have enough to make a distributor's minimum COD wholesale order then place a order to be dropped shipped to their customer(s) or to themselves for reshipment. You can't pick up your order from them because they don't actually stock the merchandise themselves.

Again, a very good place not to shop for parts. Midfifty on the other hand is a very good place to buy stuff, they just didn't carry the headliner I wanted. Oh well, probably buy one from them and send it out to an upholsterer now!

Mid-Fifty located in Kingman AZ .. have you tried NPD (National Parts Depot)? They have four locations: Canton MI, Charlotte NC, Ocala FL and Ventura CA

I second the Early Ford Store while in California, if nothing else but to look around. Every time I called Johns I got a machine or nothing, so I never bought anything and they were close. Blue Oval didn't really have stock, more mail order (reselling of others parts), Truck shop has CHEAP parts (price and quality) and is a zoo on weekends or around lunchtime. CW Moss is nice to walk around in but sold their truck line to The Truck Shop (but used parts still pop up there). Sadly if I buy new parts It's mail order (Mid Fifty), no more good local places.

For another source for ABS parts you can look at Quiet Ride Solutions - located in Stockton, Ca.
They don't have the vinyl covered headliner but they do have all the ABS panels.

Jeff is their customer service guy and he is a passionate Gearhead!!

John's

Well the end of the saga! They called last Friday, I was at a car show so I missed the call. I called them back Monday morning and they informed me that the upholsterer was swamped and the headliner would not be done for another week and a half. I told her that's what she told me on June 6th and I was not pleased. She told me she had called me, I said yea last Friday after I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and left a message informing them I was going to call the Pomona Police department and file a report of theft on them. She asked if I wanted to wait, I informed her not on her life and to give me a total refund that I expected to be in my account by Wednesday. She told me it was a special order, I told her I would still call the Pomona Police and file a report. Long story short, the money is back in my account and I will never order anything from those crocks again! Beware of John's F One Hundred's, they are not very good business people! I wouldn't order a lock washer from those people! Thanks to all for your input and comments, I have another on order from NPD and it will be delivered on Friday. I will have to have someone else upholster it but that's the way it goes. Yes AX Racer I used a CC!

I consider you a good guy for taking the time to share your experience so the next guy doesn't fall into that hole. Solutions to problems are great but avoiding them in the first place is even better.
