Very puzzling problem. Honk the horn, and the engine dies.

If I honk the horn, the truck immediately shuts off as if I turned the key off. Will strart right back up, but does it every time.

Second thing. When the temp. is below 60°F. the truck will start right up, but as soon as I give any gas pedal at all, it shuts off as if I turned of the key. The truck will start back up, and idle fine. I can put in gear, and the truck will roll, but if I give any pedal at all, she dies.

If I keep doing this, eventually, I can get a little bit of speed and give a tiny bit of gas and keep going. After about a mile or two, I can increase the amount of gas and she wil occasionally miss like wanting to die, but catches and keeps going.

Does not do this above about 60° outside temp.

I'm not sure if the two scenarios are related, but am wondering how the temperature can shut off fuel???

1997 F250 with 240k miles. I have changed out the fuel filter with no effect.

Please, anyone have any ideas?

I'm just guessing, but the horn thing sounds like a short in your steering column. not familiar with diesels, maybe glow plugs?

A ground may have lost connection, prob under the dash somewhere, the system may be grounding itself through the horn circuit, when you honk the horn it loses the ground and dies.

May or may not be related to the other issue, but seems like a good place to start.

yes check your grounds, if the battery is still hooked up and you loosen a ground the truck will do some funky stuff.(like headlights flashing radio on and off blower motor always changing speed)

I have the same problem with the engine shutting off when I hit the horn. It will also die sometimes when the wipers are turned on. This is an 02 f350 superduty with the 7.3. Could it be the clockspring? Any ideas?

Do dogs howl when you blow your horn?

Do pretty girls snicker?

Your engine may be dying of embarrassment when you blow your wimpy horn. Get a manly horn. No "AAA-OOO-Gah", no "Dukes of Hazard" or "Dixie" horns.

Just trying to help.
