What is an "electrostatic de-resting tank"? And what is it used for?

Nice work on the old lathe by the way, that thing is beautiful.

Sorry..... Should have been DE-RUST tank..........The old fingers slip sometimes.......lol

Try here: Rust removal by electrolysis and here: Rust removal by electrolysis on a trailer frame

The lathe was a fun project and I've since done a milling machine also. I just got my next project delivered today. A Brown and Sharp Automatic Screw Machine is now setting in my shop awaiting teardown.

Yeah OK Don, I guess I should have figured it out. Never heard of an Automatic Screw Machine either. I guess I need to stick around and get educated.

Thanks

Time for another shop project!

Many thanks to Tiny for bringing me my new shop project! I bought a Brown and Sharpe Automatic Screw Machine for $100! Started tearing it down today and running all the parts through my hot tank. Once all the parts are cleaned up I'll paint it all and then start the reassembly. Can't wait to get this old piece up and running!

Everything I took off today is in the hot tank tonight. Tomorrow I'll take more apart...

Very cool Don. Were you able to come up with any info or literature on your machine?

Morning Bruce. I found ton's of manuals for it, and even a 14 chapter "book" on the set-up and operation of this machine from Brown and Sharpe!

My goal is to make specialty fasteners for the antique auto/motorcycle crowd.

This machine is in very good shape and should be a nice restoration. Can't wait to see and hear it running!

It is a machine that makes screws and studs, nuts, etc, automatically while I watch and drink coffee!

These machines were used to make nuts and bolts long before CNC machines were invented, and many are still in use.

I got Charlie pumped talking about this one. So much that he went out and made a bunch of tips for his Mig welder with his last week!

I took all the parts out of the hot tank that I put in yesterday. Love how quick it strips all the grease and paint!

I downloaded a set of manuals for this machine, and I'm taking a ton of pictures........

I didn't even turn the hot tank on, just did it cold for 12 hours. This would have taken countless hours to do by hand. I put another batch in tonight!
