suspension modification need help

I have a 1969 f250 4x4. the stock axles are in rough shape and would need much work and rebuilding so i looked into buying new ones. I Found a front dana 60 and rear axle off a 1989 f350 completely built with new leafs, shackles, disc brakes, etc. off a friend of my dads for real cheap. Problem is the new axles are about 4 inches longer than the old ones and wont just bolt right up. i knew changing to axles 20 years newwer would take some modification and customizing i am just wondering if anyone else has done this and how they went about spacing out the frame or shortening the leaf spring width from side to side. please help
