I'm sure there's a story behind that, and I doubt it was road rage.

I actually had a similar situation happen once.
We had a old chev, and the steering wheel fell off when we hooked a tow strap to it one day.
Drove around for 3 weeks using a pair of vise grip pliers till we made it to the wrecker for some extra parts to fix it.

This was back in the days where "shopping" was buying more booze, pop and kraft dinner.
Stupidity was at an all time high.
