If it isn't blowing the fuse, you are OK. The heater doesn't drastically change the temperature of the fuel. It just keeps the water in the bottom of the separator from freezing.

It's on all the time the truck is on. Purpose for the heater element is to heat the fuel filter so fuel does not crystallize to the filter element with cold fuel, causing clogging. If you are in warmer climates then it don't mean spit.

What Jim said. Volume vs heater, its not gonna heat the fuel that fast.

Most of us just have removed them.

I don't have any issues here in michigan with it being cold out. its under 20 outside and I can start my truck with 6 glow plugs. (2 not working)

My trucks have started and ran for hours up here when its -30º and I've never had a gel problem.

Unhook it and never look back.

The fuel heater won't help you start the engine. If you're having starting problems, they're rooted elsewhere.

"Cycling" the glow plugs? You mean you leave them on for the full two minutes, and then turn the key back and turn them on again? Then you've got a bigger problem. You do know from the owner's manual, right, that the glow plugs stay on for up to two minutes when the engines cold.
