2004 Diesel no-start electrical issue? Please help.

OK, starting at the beginning. This is my bosses truck that his wife babied. He bought her a new car, as the kids are bigger and off to college, and they did not need something so big anymore. He decided to sell the truck, so he had it detailed. They did their usual wax wash shampoo, etc. They then left the truck running, presumably with the heater running to dry out the interior. Well, they ran it out of diesel. Now I don't know what happened next. My boss said, what if the dumb-asses put gasoline into the tank? If they did this, I cannot tell now. He picked up the truck, brought it to our warehouse, and moved it in and out a couple times. One day it would not start/turnover. So, we charged the batteries, to no avail. It would turnover for a few cranks, then stop cranking. We thought that the batteries had been killed by the deep cycle when it was ran out of gas, and the key was left "ON" for who knows how long. So today, I went out and purchased two (2) new 750 CCA Duralast batteries from Autozone. Guess what, same thing. It seems like there is a massive electrical "load" on the batteries when I turn the key. It turns over four or five seconds, and then drops off. Normally this truck kicked to life on the first tiny crank. What is going on? Did the auto-detailers really completely **** something up? Could I have a huge electrical draw from a starter or alternator? If anyone could share any diagnosis tips, or theories, I would be grateful. At this point, my next or last option unfortunately is to have it towed to the local Ford dealership. Thanks.

If someone put gas in the tank you need to get that out before you try to do anything. that will cause SERIOUS problems. if not i would put a multimeter on the batteries and watch the voltage while cranking. check terminals, connections and grounds.

Also does the crank sound even? like it turns over smooth?

Hi BHOFFMAN,

I'd suggest you post this in the 6.0L forum and you'll get some more eye ***** on this specific to your diesel.

Good luck!

I don't want to double-post this. Can a moderator move this to the 6.0 section?
