1965 3.03 toploader questions
Hi all,
I am new to the boards and trying to learn more about this 3.03 3 speed toploader transmission. Some other folks here were very helpful in helping me identify it (June 1965) https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...toploader.html
My questions now are: what other Fords will it readily go into? It sounds like it will go into a similar vintage Falcon if you add the Falcon tailshaft. Is this correct? What about a Ranchero or Mustang?
And just to be transparent, I will be putting the tranny up for sale. I just want to learn as much as I can about it so I can correctly advertise it.
Thanks in advance for your help. This is new territory for me as I am more of a Model A and ****** Jeep guy.
Cheers,
Scramboleer

That trans was used in almost every Ford car and light duty truck for years. Yours was for the 240 motor, so it should work for any V8 or large six.
Yes, the tailshaft and housing would have to be changed to fit in the other vehicles. That probably requires a teardown of the trans. I can't find a blown up view of the trans to see.
ID lists here, you can see how many cars and some trucks used this. It was also used in F100, 150 and 250 trucks, along with Econolines.

Type 3.03 3 speed all syncromesh introduced in 1963, was not installed in Econoline/Falcon/Comet/Mustang with 144/170 engines. These used the type 2.77 "weak sister" trans with non syncro 1st gear.
It gives me the ****** when I think of the gazillions of FoMoCo vehicles that used the 3.03 overland from 1963 thru 1987. Holy Toledo, what a trans!
