Which rear wheel bearings?

Hello everyone,

I finally found a replacement axle for my 76 F100 4x2. I want to run through it and replace as many PM parts as I can before I install it. The axle rating on the receiving truck is 2550#.

The donor 9 inch axle is from a 78 F150, but the ID tag is missing. It was a parts truck that a guy near me had, but most of the rest was gone, so I have no idea what axle rating it is. My first question comes to the bearings.

Do I need the bearings for the 9" 3600/3750# axle? (NPD Part # F-1225-3)
Or do I need the bearings for the standard 9"? (NPD Part # F-1225-4)

Here are some pictures of the donor axle's bearings.

I appreciate the help, I don't want to order the wrong bearings - that would suck!

Bearing and seal available from any autoparts store, so you don't have to buy them from NPD and pay shipping charges.

1974/79 9 inch: There are two types of bearings: Tapered roller bearing/seal combination. This ain't it!

This is the large ball type bearing. The bearing has a BIN (Bearing Industry Number) stamped on it, take this number to the parts store.

Ball type very common, used 1961/73 & 1980/86, and on some 1974/79's. 1961/73 Thunderbird/Ford Country Sedan/Squire wagons used the same bearing.

D8AZ-1225-C (replaced C1SZ-1225-A & C9AZ-1225-A) .. Ball Type "Large" Axle Bearing / Stamped with BIN: F-208-L or F-208-HL or FPP or R88128 or 88128 or F208AKK

EOTZ-1S177-A (replaced C9AZ-1177-A & B7A-1177-A) .. Axle Seal ~ 1957/86-Use with ball type bearing.

Yes,

The retaining ring has R88128 stamped on it
The black seal in the bearing looks like: RCA (could be BCA) 88128YY - SEAL

That's her, the application guide should give you a better idea of what rearend you have, well it'll narrow it down at least. Have him or her look in the 70's half tons to see what that fits.
*Edit, go to a real parts house, Napa, Carquest, etc. You will get the best help there, If there is at least one Eclipse with a wing in the employee parking, keep driving

I already narrowed it down to ONE: LARGE BALL BEARING / See post 2.

The other type used 1974/79 is a tapered roller bearing/seal combo. This ain't it!

9" rear is basically the same, but the IDIOTS at FoMoCo used two types of axle bearings in 1974/79 F100/150/Bronco/Passenger Cars.

D4AZ-1225-A = Tapered Roller Bearing stamped with BIN: U-399-A

I sold this crap for 35 years, so I know what I'm talking about. A glance at the bearing retainer told me what bearing it is.

Thank you Bill!

I'm sorry if I am easily confused. In this post you say I need the D8AZ-1225-C then later you say D4AZ-1225-A

Yes, 88128 is the BIN , as Bill mentioned, it is an industry standard as far as the dimensions of the bearing is concerned. The letters in the suffix refer to application specific kits ( RAP) The YY on the bearing itself refers to the type of seal that is integrated with the bearing assembly. That should be the correct part.

OP will also need the seal, and the Merry Oldsmobiles that I've owned in the past:

1950 88 Deluxe Club Coupe, 88 Station Wagon, 88 Sedanet; 1954 98 4 door; 1955 Super 88 2dr H/T; 1960 Super 88 2 door H/T; 1962 Starfire H/T; 2000 Intrigue.

And, my dad was an Olds Dealer.

Olds made three models: 88, 98 and urin8, for p!ssin' around town in.

Bill, the seal is still in the housing, correct? It been awhile, my '67 9 3/8" housing had these bearings in it. It should be listed in the app guide next to the bearing.

Tapered roller bearing/seal combo comes as a unit. Only the seal was available by itself.
