all i had to do was pull my left front tire off and the sending unit was right there. one wire connects to it, but it was easy to get off. then i just unscrewed the old unit with a knipex type pair of channel locks and screwed the new one back in with the correct size wrench. snaped the wire back on an put the tire back on. my oil filter is remote mounted on the inside of the bumper and not in the way. sending unit sits on the engine side.

Reason: added more stuff
Got it all done. The connector basically crumbled off like a potato chip, all except the center electrical contact and just enough of the snap lock to hold it together for now.
Ordering a new connector for warmer weather days.
There ya go.
Now are ya goin to take all them parts back for return?
Just kiddin.
Good luck.
Actually, the defective lines were Dorman that I replaced 2 years ago and have a lifetime warranty, so they go back for credit .. which I'll put towards exhaust manifolds, studs, and a new egr tube. Sensor was still good but figured I'd save some potential trouble being that it was 16 years old.
320K on the truck so I can't complain. My brother in laws both drive GMs and are both on their 3rd trucks in the time I've had 1.
Some guys never learn.

I've got a similar setup with the remote mounted filter. Did you have to pull the fender wall to get to the sending unit? I pulled my tire but still couldn't see the sending unit. The dealership printed a picture of where its suppose to be on the remote filter design. I was suspecting it to be hiding under some hoses.
Think maybe it's time to check the oil pressure with an external gage to be sure what you have?
Maybe the oil pressure is in fact low.
Is the oil level at least at the low mark on the dip stick?
If the level is to low, the oil movement in the pan may uncover the pickup.
Good luck.
I agree. Get a mechanical guage on it ASAP. If your pressure is actually low, you can do a lot of damage. I had a bud with a 4.6; the oil pump went while his wife was driving it and he destroyed the cylinder heads (cams ride right in the aluminum head w/o bearings).
I had the same problem, sometimes my oil pressure gauge didn't work and sometimes it did...this went on for a couple of years. Yesterday I decided to replace the sender and the gauge works great. 2001 F150 5.4V 4X4 7700 82,300.00 Kilometers from new.
@YoGeorge My gauge pegs out in the red once I'm driving down the road & stays pegged out in idle.
Once I shut her down & restart she runs normal until I start driving again the oil pressure gauge pegs out in the red again.
What should I do?
