First time ford buyer 1989 full size bronco custom xlt converted to an inline 6 300 from a 302
I just purchased a 1989 bronco custom xlt that has been through a 302-300 swap and came out rough. My dad and some of my friends said the s6 was about fords strongest pulling long lasting engine and convinced me to purchase it. I love the truck and the engine but its not right.
They cut and plugged the smog sys. Cut into the wiring harness the speedometer/odometer, and gas gauges dont work the blower is always on the alt bat and reg are good but charging system has issues 4alt n 2 bat in last 6 months i only put on 1 each after i bought it.
It stalls out some especially in 4wd going up a hill. Very old single barrelled carb on it.
Engine is out of an 83 but not sure if it is from a bronco or f100-150
Also i know its hard but i need a used tailgate that functions.
Any advice to ceaning up the way it runs

Buy some good books
I replied to this in another thread, I shouldn't have done that but I didn't realize at the time you were hijacking somebody else's thread and that's not real cool to do here.
I shall paste my reply into this thread, then edit it out of the other thread.

Single-barrelled carburetor on a 1989? What kind of ignition system?
Get yourself some Ford factory service manuals, don't try and rely on Haynes or Chilton's for this stuff.
I would suggest:
Body/Chassis/Electrical Shop Manual
Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (EVTM)
Possibly the Wiring Diagrams manual
Possibly the Engine manual (should have info for both a 302 & 300 if they were both available in 1989)
All of the above are specific to the 1989 Light Truck series, look on eBay and Faxon and other such places that sell used automobile literature. You can sometimes buy brand new directly from the publisher, too.
