1994 f-350 7.3 idi turbo won't start

I just bought a 94 f-350 idi turbo, it started great when bought, and for about 3 days after that, then one day it would not start, had batteries tested and one was bad, bought a new battery and it started again and started for about 5 more times that day no problem. Went to work it sat for 8 hours, went to start it after work it started quickly then died and would not restart. The wts light lights up for 8-10 seconds then goes off, it turns over pretty rapidly but will not start, any suggestions?

Yah give that a check depending on how the wind is blowing you should be able to see its vaporised fuel so you should be able to smell it soo, if nothing is coming out, make sure you have fuel (not to be a smart ***) make sure none of your fuel lines are leaking, could be your lift pump id replace that first if your lines are good since its cheeper than an injection pump lol

Yeah when my lift pump went out it went out, hopefully its not your ip, however if the shower heads broke off in the tank that could be an issue to what's your fuel level at and you try switching tanks?

Well its probably not a broken shower head if you wanna drop the tank and check it wouldn't hurt though the lift pump is like 25 bucks and id rather rdplace than drop a full tank if I don't absolutly have too

An easy test for lift pump is detach the line back to the tank from your lift pump and put it in a fuel can of diesel and try to start her, If there is no change, then the problem is not from the pump back, but somewhere in the engine compartment. Hard starts after sitting, but not yet cold motor is a classic sign of air intrusion. Do you know if your return lines have been serviced?

FWIW, What sparky says is true, a lift pump is relatively inexpensive, pretty easy to change out, and can eliminate that factor.

ok my uncle towed it and it started right up ran rough a minute then ran like a champ, i got it home, and let it sit 10 minutes and started right back up, ran great, there is no mechanical pump, prior owner must have installed a electric pump? mechanical pump is still there but no lines? and i dont think the return lines have been touched, im getting a filter tomorrow, and have return lines on order

94,

It sounds like you are on the right track. The running rough after pull starting sounds like air in the lines. Hopefully return lines will fix that. make sure you get vitton o-rings. Most kits don't come with them, but they are readily available from McMaster-Carr or Russ, (typefour here) can hook you up with a complete quality kit.

Hope it goes well for you,

Mac.

In a word, Yes. They are relatively easy and cheap to do. Just know, chasing down air intrusion can be frustrating. Hopefully this solves your problem, but it is just a matter of time until you get it figured out.
