2wd ZF transmission

I picked up an 88 ZF from a 2wd F250. Do all the 2wd ZFs have a fixed rear yoke? Is there a slip yoke available for it?

AFAIK, all 2WD ZFs have a fixed yoke. All the diagrams I've seen of them show that - never a slip yoke. But it shouldn't be too difficult to find a shaft to fit it & your truck, or to have one built. Six States Distributors can certainly do it.

It just means I have to find a 2 piece driveshaft for my truck. I thought at first I could reuse my existing but I guess not.

The ZF has a fixed yoke (but you already knew that from the previous posts). The slip yoke is on the driveshaft. I have a LWB regular cab and a one piece driveshaft. It was almost too long for a one piece but it will work. If this is going into a 150 then you will also need a stepjoint for the driveshaft somewhere along the way.

A step joint

Also adding to the trouble is the ZF is about 6" shorter than the C6 I currently have. Right now I am going to see if there is a 2 piece driveshaft in a 139" wheelbase truck with C6, that should buy me the extra 6" in length since I have a 133" wheelbase. But I guess I have to watch where the center carrier is.

The ZF is made for the 250 so the u joints are larger than the u joints for the 150. You will have to get a "step joint" to reduce from the transmission flange (or yoke) to go from the larger size to the smaller size, or somewhere else in the drivetrain unless you have a 250 rear on the truck. An auto parts store should be able to help you or if you have to get a new driveshaft made, the shop should be able to help you. I don't know what tranny you currently have but you will probably have to customize the tranny xmember to accomidate the ZF. Good luck. A pain to change but worth it.

Ahh, now I understand. Thanks for your help. I think I might try to track down a 73-79 139" WB truck to measure the driveshaft....
