parts cross reference

Hi, i'm parting out some cars and wonder if anyone knows the best way to cross reference parts to see what other vehicles they'll fit ?

Some manufacturers list cross references for the parts they make, so you could try checking some of their catalogs.

The Hollander Interchange Manual (Hollander Interchange: The Best Tool for the Right Part) is what you are looking for. It is the guide used by salvage yards. There are several on eBay but they are pricey ($150 +/-). Another option albeit time consuming, is to find a similar part on eBay listed by a dealer. I've found they automatically list all the different models and years the listed part is applicable for. Amazon does the same thing only in a different manner. You find the part then you have the option of filling in your year/make/model to find if it will fit. The last two methods only work for commonly used parts.

Don't overlook your local/regional library. In the Seattle area, you can find them at the bigger regional libraries. Since they are considered "reference", you can't check them out and take them home so you'll have to view them at the library. If your library has entered the new millennium, you should be able to search online and see what branch has it.

Don't know how helpful this will be. Found a part number interchange here: Official Ford Parts Site | Buy Motorcraft & OEM Ford Parts Online | FordParts.com

It's the grey tab underneath the red Motorcraft logo. Only problem is you'll need part numbers.
