It'll bolt up to the 302, but you'll need a 28 oz/in flywheel for the 302 that's the same diameter as the 300's flywheel. You will also need to adapt a hydraulic clutch setup to work the clutch. Either use the stock hyd throwout bearing, or use a McCleod unit. Then there's the mastercylinder for this, you'll need to adapt one to the 77's firewall and clutch pedal. What transmission does the 77 have now ?
its a 3spd auto. i could just use a mechanical clutch as well, correct?
Not easily. The 5 speeds use an internal concentric throw out bearing. (certain other hydraulic clutches use an external slave, but not the SBF pattern 5ers) These transmissions have integral bells, so you can't just bolt them up to an older mechanical clutch bell.
So you would be into some machine work, welding, trial and error fitting etc.
There are older Fords (late '50s to early '60s) with juice clutchs, and also about '84 and later trucks have them too, so you can pick from one of those to retrofit the master.
IF you don't want to go through the trouble of a hydro clutch set up you can get a manual trans from a 5.0L Mustang. It will have either a T5 or a T45 and uses a TO bearing and a clutch cable. You will still have to install a clutch pedal but they you only have to route a cable from the pedal to the release lever in the bell housing.
Not 100% but I think that it also has electric speedo also.
Darren
Think so too, but I think it has the hole or the boss or the speedo cable hole in the tailhousing, so it may only need to drill the hole and install the speedo drive gear on the tailshaft if it's not already present.
alright, someone told me , that i need a shallow flywheel, but i dont see why i would need one?
Never heard of one. Unless they're comparing the truck flywheel for a ZF transmission to the one used on the M5ODR2. Your 5 speed should be an M5ODR2. Look at the data plate on the transmission. If it's a ZF, it'll say so on the plate. The ZF uses a thicker flywheel.
