2003 8-10" Lift

Well guys Im looking to lift my F250 4x4 6.0 diesel. I have been reading articles on here about different kits to use. I am concerned about kits that just block the rear. I think I want new spring all the way around. Which kit do you guys suggest that will also offer a fairly comfortable ride? Thanks in advance Gary

Hello SWAMPER38 and welcome to FTE.

With over 4 inches of lift, I would recommend that you find a spring shop that will do custom springs and have them make you a set.

This link is from Benz Springs, located in the Pacific Northwest. What they did with this Excursion is what you want.

Why do you need a 8"-10" lift kit? What size tire will you be running?

if ur going up that high i'd def. recommend all spring lift at each corner.

for that height i'd look at Skyjacker and Superlift.

with my preference being Skyjacker.

I had a 2001 7.3 with a 8" bds lift and 2.5" shackles for a total of 10.5" with 39.5" irocs. It was a stiff ride but not as bad as my buddies skyjacker. Anything with that much lift is going to be a rough ride no matter what. But I miss that truck was a blast to drive especially with the train horn.

Get an icon lift kit. Upgrade the shocks if you can. You will have the best ride if you go with a smaller rear spring and get a set of one up Offroad traction blocks/bars. I had mine on a 12.5 icon lift kit with 8" rear springs with OUO traction bars/blocks and it road as good or better than stock.

You spend a little extra coin and a lift kit of that size will ride as good or better than stock.

I will be going with BDS on my 04. They will replace any part under warranty for life, including broken springs! The whole reason I want a lift is so I can put on some big, fat tires and dog the crap out of it off road! It's worth it to pay a few extra buck for a quality kit that's 100% covered by the manufacturer.

That is a lot of lift for a 37. If you want 8" of lift the best route is links and coils.

I prefer big tires and as little lift as possible. It makes for a more stable, capable, reliable and useful rig. Have you thought about 37's a leveling kit and cut out flares?

Tires

Maybe I should consider a 6"? Just interested in the look not off road'n it. might consider 38" But years ago i had a dodge with a 14" lift and 39.5 Super Swampers and it was too much for daily use to the store. Could park in most places. Looking for mild not wild. Just clean lift and tires

The guy has a leaf spring truck, why would he need to link and coil it to do a 8" lift? Honestly a truck with 8" leaf spring setup will actually have more travel than a truck with a 8" coilover setup. In order to do a coil setup on his truck would be a major ordeal.

To the OP. I am running 14" of lift with 38's. I love it. Everybody likes different stuff. I am running that mainly since the 40's rubbed and I WILL NOT cut up my fenders to clear larger tires.

37's and 8" will be fine. Go to a 10" and run 38's. My advice to you is that if you have ANY inclination on wanting a bigger lift is just to go to that height you want! I went from stock, to 6", to 12.5" icon, to a 14" One Up Offroad front and rear coil setup. So, if you want an 8" or a 10" lift, then go for it. Honestly a leaf spring truck is 10x easier to go that high than a newer truck.

It is not true that the higher you go the ****tier the truck will ride. If you buy a cheap kit that is what you get is a stiff ride. You get a Icon kit and it will ride great. Save for a little longer and get your 8 or 10" setup with 37's or 38's and you will be happy.

Talk to www.trucktoyzperformance.com and see what they can do for you. Even if you didn't buy anything from them it would be worth talking to them about lift kit options.
