1963 F100 223 6cyl only runs with choke on

I have a 1963 F100 223 6cyl that starts hard and only runs with the choke on. Even after well warmed up it stalls when the choke is turned off and stalls when I give it gas. It has been sitting for several years with gas in the tank. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like it needs a good carb rebuild and a adjustment when installed. Empty the tank of the bad gas clean it out. Replace the fuel filter and clean the lines out and you should be good to go.

Kind of amazing that it started without cleaning out the fuel system in the first place. Do what kjv reccomended and it can only improve!

It's the autolite carb

I have replaced the fuel filter and am in the process of letting it run out of gas... I'm going to try fresh gas and then dive into the carb. Thanks!

You could put some fresh gas in a jug and let the fuel pump draw it from there to see if it is simply a gummed up/mis-adjusted carb. That would at least eliminate the lines back to and including the tank. Could just be that the "varnish" build up from old gas is causing issues. Old gas does strange things. It really is amazing that it even runs on it.

Picked up a carb rebuild kit at NAPA, rebuilt the carb and now the 63 runs great! Thanks for your help. Now on to the generator that doesn't seem to put out...

Tell me more?

Can you give me the procedure on how to "Flash" the generator? I'm looking forward to getting the last gremlin out of this truck so I can drive it! Thanks
