1979 F150 4x4 6.9 Diesel Build (With Pictures)
#48
Update: Getting ready for it to get warmer so I can start my body work. Not a whole lot else has happened other than new calipers and one new rotor, the other on the way. Also replaced the locking hubs with mile markers. Today I went and tested them out a little bit (mall crawling, lol)

Thanks, I appreciate it! It's coming along
Anyway, another update for everyone. The truck runs and drives good, haven't done much mechanically, except for some brake work. I've been spending most of my time doing body work, and just got the driver's side of the truck in polyester primer. Under that is epoxy primer. Next up is the passenger's side, hood, roof and tailgate. Then block sanding... Lots of block sanding. I also have to do something with the flaked off yellow paint all over the front suspension, I think I'll make it easy and just go black with that though.
It's not going to be show truck quality, but I think it will turn out pretty good and look nice. Here's how lots of hours worth of me doing body work turned out. Also, there's a weird little flaw in the picture by the rear side marker light, but it looks fine in person.

If anyone is still following my build here, I figured I'd do a quick update. I finished the body work and painted the top half yesterday. I'm thrilled at how nice it turned out, it looks good to me at least. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
First coat going on (very light):

Also, a shout-out to Jklnhyd for sending me the rear sliding window end caps that I've been looking for. There is a great group of guys here on this forum and he is one of them for sure.

Thanks man! I love the color too, it's a custom mix "midnight blue metallic" acrylic enamel. Looks different than new car paint. Color two is "silver alloy metallic", going on next weekend hopefully. I'll definitely update this once I finish the paint.

For the color change, I scored a decent set of trim to put on. The truck didn't originally have trim, but the guy I got the trim from had the clips and everything, so I figured I may as well.
I don't plan on doing any clear coat as of now, I think the color change line should be fine without it. We'll see, but I sure can't wait to get the silver sprayed on there.

I thought it looked good at every phase. I liked the flat black, liked the primer, but I think it'll look best once I'm done with painting it. The plan is to get the silver shot sometime on Friday.
Thanks!
Thank you! It's sure been fun.

Silver is on, now it just needs to get sunny out so I can see it in the sunlight. The only pictures I have are from yesterday, and it was cloudy then and still is. I think the silver is very close to the primer color. Now I have to clean up the wiring a bit more, swap in my 3g alternator, change my driver side front rotor, paint the ugly front suspension, put the grille shell and bumpers on, mirrors, and some other odds n ends. Nothing big compared to the body work and swapping the engine though.
