315/75/16 Fit w/o lift?

I have to take this back and ask all the experts. I saw a F250 with a pair of BF 315/75/16 on today, and I am wondering if I would able to put those bad puppies on my rig without a lift. My truck is a 2002 F250 SD Crew 4x4 V10, 6 Spd., Lariat edition.

All serious replies as well as goof ***** welcome.

They are gonna rub up front w/o a lift (stock 4x4 height). Rears will be fine. I looked into this size and the 305's, finally settling on 295's for my truck (see gallery for tire pix).

They'll rub up front on a stock truck, but you'd likely be OK with a levelling kit.

Also, that tire is too wide for the stock rim, you'd be pushing your luck there too.

Waxy thanks as usual. I looked up your site with FAQs and saw that I would need a 3" lift. The problem out here is not many gargages do lifts.

Bob, nice looking rig. Mine is a 2002 two tone in Woodland Green and Tan, mated with a 6 spd. I like your tires the 295s, why not go to 305s? Won't fit? Second, the K & N filter, would you recommend that add on? Have you experienced greater gas mileage or just greater power.

305's fit but still would rub on full-lock turns up front, plus, as Waxy rightly pointed out, we're getting too wide for the stock rims to risk beads losing their seal w/ the 305+ sizes.

As for the K&N, I really can't say I get better mileage. I like the fact that I don't have to change the filter every 6-9 months and I get a _slight_ driveability enhancement around town w/r/t throttle response. That's about it for me & the FIPK. If I get a couple horses out of it to boot, then that's just gravy.

It also sounds wicked cool at WOT with my new Flowmaster 40 SI/DO with 3.5" diameter tips. Way neat sound from a V10..... I don't think the OEM airbox and paper filter would do the same IMO.

Okay Waxy, then what size rim do you suggest? Leveling kits from Rancho gives 2.5 inches up front. According to your site, I'll need 3".

Bob, thanks for your answer, I think I'll save the money for the tires, rims and lift.

Thumbs up 315/75/16 Fit w/o lift?

I have got 315/70/16's on a 16x8 wheel with the factory snow plow prep package springs. They have not rubbed with moderate off roading in approx 5,000 miles of driving. Going to Silver Lake Sand Dunes next weekend to give them a good test. I'll let you know the verdict when I get back, but I don't forsee any problems with them rubbing.

315/75- 16 is taller than the 315/70 - 16.

I think PSD_Power runs 35's (very close in size) with a 3" levelling kit without problems.

Check out some of the other levelling kits, BDS, Tuff Country, etc... you should be able to get the front end up by about 2.5-3". Do a search on levelling kits, there are tons of threads on them.

I'd say you need an 8" wheel at a minimum, probably 8.5-9" would be better. Try www.tirerack.com or the BFG site for recommended rim widths.

Good luck,

Waxy

Rick, you have a sweet looking rig with those 315s. That is what I am looking for. I noticed that you have Ranchos steering stabilizer on and what about shocks. Do you have rubbing on road driving. Let me know all the facts. And definately will be waiting to hear the verdict when you get back.

Waxy, thanks again for your info. I'm waiting to hear back from Rick to see in fact he has a lift or leveling kit. But for sure I will go and check out those you listed, and definately go for the 16 x 8 wheels.

Thanks fellas, and keep the info flowing. I hope RockRoad is reading some of this info.

Tedmiester,

As Waxy said the 315/75 in the M/TS are 1 1/4 inches taller than the 315/70 A/TS's in a Goodyear tire. Not sure on any other brand of tires height. I went with the A/TS's as the are not as an agressive tire as the M/TS.

I have had the truck on a few two tracks around my area and they have not rubbed at all. But I have done my best to keep the front end on the ground. The truck has the stock X springs or snow plow prep package on it, no other modifacations. I put the Rancho steering stabilizer on before I put the new tires and wheels on not sure of the effect it has other than looks

It has the stock shocks on it right now, but that is my next investment. And I think I am going with the Edelbrock IAS.

Rick

I have a 2.5" Tuff Country leveling kit, when I put 315/75-16 BFG AT KO's on 16x8 with 3.625" backspacing I had to shim the front bumper out about an inch so the tires wouldn't rub when turning. I also moved the inner wheel wells back some just for good measure.

THANKS DC AND PSD FOR ANSWERING. I THINK I WILL STICK TO WAXXY'S RECOMMENDATION AND GET A LEVELING KIT, AND THROW ON 295S. I DONT WANT TO EXPERIENCE RUBBING AND SHIMMING, IF I HAVE TO GO THAT ROUTE, THEN I'LL PUT ON A 4" LIFT KIT TO AVOID ALL THE UNNECESSARY PROBLEMS.
