Secondary fuel filter options
Hey every one. Is there a good budget solution for adding a pree filter some where on the OBS trucks before the factory fuel filter. Other then the filter being kind of small I question its ability to filter properly after seeing all the junk in the fuel pressure regulator screen. I was kind of thinking about adding a large fleet guard filter under the truck some where and using it as the primary filter. I would love to add a air dog system but this is a budget truck for now.

I got a filter head and electric pump off a 1660 IH combine years ago and installed in on the frame rail just after the tank selector valve. The spin on water trap filters for it are $16 and I thought the micron rating was 10 or 12.
after I installed that I never had to change the factory filter I just changed the cheaper easier spin on filter.
I'll find a pic and post it in a lil while.

I installed this set-up on my '97 way back in 2007, in early 2012 I ran it on my crew cab for a few months then in April 2012 I put it on the Reg Cab when I did my WVO conversion, which is when I took the pics. The pusher pump is the same pump that was on it when I pulled the unit off in the Junk Yard. The combine was a mid-late 80's model and its entirely possible that is the orignal pump.
All I did was pull the rubber line coming off the front of the selector valve and run it over the frame to the suction side of the pump, then I ran the red hose from the output side of the filter to the steel line on the fram rail. it took my longer to run the wires and find a keyed power source then it did to drill the holes in the frame and hook up the hoses. The factory fuel bowl and 2-stage pump are still in the valley, fully operational. The pusher pump shown only puts out 5-7 PSI. As long as the small hole on the inside of the fuel bowl is open this pusher pump wont hurt anything on the factory system.
