Got the timing set deal straightened out, cam degreed and buttoned up. Finally some progress!

Valve covers are just setting on there for now, need to get the valvetrain installed and the intake cleaned and possibly painted!

GREAT WARNING! Awesome. I come from the Cleveland/Cobra jet camp and have seen these stock valves come apart on the first over rev, which is easy when your ports are as big as these.

Nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a 4 bolt block with an intake valve through the cylinder wall, and an early closed chamber CJ head utterly destroyed from valves bouncing around in the cylinder. I have several dead Cleves to attest to the importance of buying good valves and keepers for these things.

This will be my first attempt at building a cleveland/modified in 20 years after becoming thouroughly disgusted (and broke!) with them due to this fact. There werent any cleveland-specific one piece valves available then. -Whats available now?

FWIW some of my valves are two piece. The split is above the keeper though, so no way for it to come apart there and cause you to lose a valve!

Small update, been super busy lately and low on cash.

The edelbrock performer intake that came on the truck was looking pretty beat

This was after scrubbing with straight simple green.

Took it to work with me and used some acid aluminum cleaner followed by sandblasting. Looks much better

Next big hurdle is the steering box, I would like to get it installed before the engine, but I may not be able to wait that long. It's a big heavy bitch, but I gotta build the budget back up first...

Buttoned up the valvetrain and mounted the intake. Anyone else hate the oil deflector clips? *Junk! *The newer rockers with the bent over stamped tab are much better.

You're just about there!

Time for some oil...prime it up...dizzy...accessories...and stuff it in the truck!

Thanks guys. Still a ways to go. Hopefully I can get the engine bay cleaned up and frame painted this weekend. Still need to modify the motor mounts and get a damn steering box too!

Looking for the right air cleaner to tie this all together. I'm not finding it so I may have to build one.

I had it estimated at one point now but I don't remember. I wanna say about 350 HP and 450+ ft.-lb of TQ at the flywheel

Yes and Aussie heads = about 10.25 : 1 compression

Stock pistons have less dish than Tim's Aussie ones

Camquest says 359HP and 447 TQ

probably as good a guess as mine, LOL

I tought stock pistons were to much down the hole to give you good compression compare to tim piston.
