2011 Ecoboost fuel Mileage

I have a 2011 4 wd ecoboost screw with 3.73 rear. It is making horrible fuel mileage in my opinion. I can't get over 15.5 on the hwy whether it be long trips or cruising at 65 in the city. I do regular maintenance on it and have never had it do very well. I am at 44000 mi now. What could be the problem?

it was just in motor trend i think that did a long term test with a boost for something like 16000 miles and ave about 15.5 mpg so yours might not be that far off. thats about what i'm gettin with my '12 5.0L 3.73 too, mostly city though

If that's the case, where is the better fuel economy that everyone talks about between the EB and the 5.0? I researched the EB and 5.0 before finally deciding on the 5.0. Generally speaking, it seemed like the EB saved about 1 mpg over the 5.0 in similar driving conditions. Based on this thread, it doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm getting 19 mixed and 24 hwy. 19500 miles on the clock and nary an issue or complaint.

I read the article in Truck Trend on the long term ecoboost test. I pay those articles no mind at all. The truck sees many different drivers and they all want that Ecoboost experience so they step on the go peddle all the time as they aren't buying the fuel. That's what I would do if I was a tester.

It seems that some trucks are having issues and some aren't. First year teething issues I suppose. I would go back to the dealer and see if they can have a look. It may need a simple reflash.

Additionally, winter blend fuel is out now and it burns differently than summer blend.

This is my thoughts on the Eco Boost. Mind you i only owned it for a month before i traded it back in. 2012 Lariat 4x4 3:55. I found if you drove it like a V6 it got mileage like a V6. If you asked it to work like a V8 it drank it down like a old V8. I saw it as high as 19.5 on hiway going 65 (looking to get mileage). As low as 13.5 around town. The average on the truck total for the 2,200 miles was 15.5. I took the truck on a hunting trip mostly hi way the average was 18....thinking thats pretty good. Flip side is now i'm driving a Raptor with the 6.2 same trip with that truck, (duplicated it)...it averaged 16. The life time average on that truck (780 miles) is 13.4. I guess my point is it takes X amount of energy to move X amount of weight. There is no magic bullet. The Eco boost is efficient, powerful motor but still not the magic bullet.

NOTE: Winter blend fuel is out, always drops my mileage by 1.5-2.0 per gallon.

My Ecoboost mileage is disappointing. Never seen over 18 mpg yet. Was averaging 16.8 mpg lifetime since purchase last May. Winter is going to kill that. Predicting lifetime to be about 15.5 mpg before end of winter. I am gentle driver with good skills. I'm the same person that got 19 mpg mixed city/highway for 5 years straight in a stock 7.3L Superduty, so nobody can tell me that I can't drive!

3.73 gears, 4x4, crew, tow max

So some people can't get 18 mpg on the highway while others get 24? Something isn't right. There is no way driving style is responsible for a 6 mpg difference.

15.5 mpg with 4wd, and super crew is not bad. Do you have bigger tires or AT's?

From what I have read because I day dream of the eco-boost rcsb. Is the guys who get good mpg is they all have 2wd, and most of them seem to have the super cab.

I would try driving in a lower gear like 5th instead of 6th to see if you geared to high "numerically low" for the engine. That will only help a bit, and likely not worth it unless you really add some bigger tires.

Mine is an SCab 4x4 with 3.31 axles and stock tires. My MPG's are dropping now that cold has started to set in. That was predictable.

Ford's 22 MPG claim is based on a 4x2 truck with the standard 3.15 axle. The standard ale on a 4x4 is the 3.31 which according to the MSRP sticker drops the mileage to 21.

While I was looking at my truck I was grreatly concerned about the 3.31 axlle as I had two previous F-150's with 3.08 axles and they were dogs.

So I called a couple of buddies (FTE members) who drive diesel trucks and shared my concern for the axle ratio. In separate conversations, they both stated that the 3.31 axle was plenty for the average person who isn't pulling heavy. And, one must determine which is more important, extreme pulling power or good power with great economy. Obviously I chose the latter.

The 3.31 is no slouch. Just two days ago there was a fool in a new model Jeep with the 5.7L Hemi. As we approached a red light, he kept inching up and acting like he wanted to run. I walked away from his dumb *** and left him in my rear view. The 3.31 is no slouch.

Buying a truck was always a measurement of my testosterone until now. I finally used some sense and bought what I needed and I have no regrets. If I ever find myself in a need to tow a TT or something heavy frequently, then I'll purchase the proper equipment.

I have a SCrew 4x4 6.5 box Lariat with Ecoboost with about 22000 miles. I reset trip B at 15000 miles and since that last reset I have averaged 15.9. If I had to break it down I'd say about 45% hiway, 50% city and 5% idling, especially now that it has been colder and I am also a volunteer firefighter so I tend to let it idle more that I should. When I weighed it a few months ago empty it tipped the scales at 6020lbs. So to me averaging 15.9 is pretty damn good. This summer I took the family to Ocean City MD, I live in Western NY, the real upstate, 4 adults and my child and luggage and down and back I averaged 19.2 with 93 octane, I thought that was really good.
