1994 F150 park brake question

In my 94 F150, the park brake does work great....when it stays on!

All the cables are new.

I think the problem would be in the pedal assembly. Doesn't do this all the time, but every now and then,

When you put it on, it'll sometime make a loud CLUNK noise, and the pedal just falls to the floor, and the brakes don't catch.

Pull the release, the pedal comes up no problem, and put it on, and it's fine.

It happen once in my driveway a few week ago, I left it in Neutral with just the park brake, and I was in the garage cleaning up my stuff, 5 min later and all I heard was a loud CLUNK, and off rolls the truck into the street, and the pedal was on the floor.

Why the hell is it doing that??

Just guessing here.... But I would check springs. A ratchet mechanism will keep the pedal locked down so it does not pop back up. A spring acting against the pedal brings it back up.. I wonder if maybe it is weak or failing or moving out of place?

I always use mine, and it does the same thing. Seems to help if I push one way or the other while pushing on the pedal. To the right helps if I recall correctly.

I need mine, the truck is standard and i'm not the kind to shut the engine off if i'm gonna come back to it and leave in a few min, I just leave it running.

Hmm... Mine hasn't done this yet, so I haven't closely inspected it. I wonder if it is the same assembly in an automatic?

If it is, you could get the unit from an automatic and it would probably have a lot less wear.

Yeah, it's the same e-brake pedal assembly regardless of transmission.
They're not made to be dis-assembled, and there's a fair amount of spring tension...
