You can get the relay by itself cheaper from the IH dealer. The smoke could just be a loose connection.
You may need to bleed it since you replaced the filter. Hold the schrader valve on the filter open while cranking until you get all the air out. Then crack the lines loose at the injectors about 1/4 turn and crank until it spurts fuel. Tighten lines as they spurt fuel. I have always loosened 6-7 injector lines that I could get to easiest.

Here's a video of how fast your cranking speed should be: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...d-gp-good.html

well ive thought of a first mistake..i put the new fuel filter on, without using clean engine oil on the rubber gasket ( i rubbed diesel fuel on it instead) so i guess today ill take it back off and reinstall with a coat of oil on the gasket. If that would really make a difference. can somewon tell iam far from being a machanic.

well its good, i found out diesel can be used on filters like oil can. I opened up injector lines, cranked till there was a stream of fuel coming out each one (wasnt spraying, was just streaming) connected the lines and nothing.. no start. So we went from, to starting hard. and now to not starting at all. I did buy a glow plug relay i will put on today.

Well , if you're getting a stream of fuel from the injector lines while you're cranking it over and there isn't any real pressure it's safe to say the pump is shot . The pump makes pressure to lift the injector nozel off of its seat to fire .
Try giving it a shot of either with the glow plugs disabled and see if it starts and stays running . Another thing you can do to help it start is plug it in for an hour or two .
It should start if everything is working correctly .

Ok, well i cant find where to plug it in. it has a cord under the hood, but the cord has a female connector, so i dont understand how a the basic cord with a male to female plug is gonna work. I dont really know if thats for the block heater or some ambulance stuff, as the wires disapear behind the firewall.

ok, i unplugged them with the ignition on and i heard a click u described when i took the wire off the injector pump and plugged it back in . i also cranked and cranked till fuel was coming out the fuel filter bleed valve, it took awhile. so now the batts are dead so i have to wait 30 mins to so for them to charge back up. ill also go ahead and put in my new glow plug solenoid since i bought it yesterday. hopefully we see in an hour if shell fire up. what about the electric fuel pump in this, since somewon told me it had one cause the fuel tank is aft of axle.

Be sure to let the starter cool down a couple minutes between cranking. They are easy to burn up. If it has an electric pump someone added it. Factory it just has the mechanical pump on the block. Sounds like you are on to something with taking so long to get fuel from the Schrader valve. You may have an air leak letting the fuel drain back to the Tank.
