How tall a tire is too tall for a 6L towing with 3.73 gears?
Last year I bought a 2005 Excursion with a 6L PSD with stock 3.73 gears and 2008+ superduty 20" wheels with 275/65/20 tires.
I have towed my 8,000lb toyhauler approximately 6,000 miles this camping season including travel down interstate 24 through Chattanooga with no issues.
These tires are 7.9% larger than the stock 265/75/16's. How much bigger can I go before a gear swap is needed? Would I benifit from a gear swap now?
I am considering 285/65/20's which are 9.8% bigger than stock. Should I stay away from these? Also the truck is running the IDP tunes (street or towing)
