Modular 4.6 Between Fat Fenders ???
Anyone set a mod engine and OD transmission into a 48-52 while maintaining the stock front axle? Clearance problems anywhere, oil pan, steering gear, firewall, rear cross member?
And how about the same mod engine into a 53 thru 56?
I am guessing any engine mounts will have to be fabricated.
Appreciate any links that I may have overlooked.

Ray,
I am putting a 4.6 dohc in my 50 and just got the engine mounts tacked in place last night. I have a mustang II though. There are a few others that have put one in.
If it helps the motor mounts I used were from Paul Hortons Welder Series for the 4.6 and are real nice.

I figure the Ford AOD would not do very well in an F-4, what I am looking for. No, I would not go very dark, just shades of gray. To be honest, I've even considered Chebby power. I am still in the investigating period, weighing my options. I know of a '55 F-350 that runs a 350W driving a C-6 and later rear end and that is one sweet machine. The builder did not have to do any chopping.
I mentioned Chebby. I even considered a fuel injected engine/tranny from a P30 to go into Missy Green but I doubt if she is the one to get any upgrade.
Just thinking out loud and bouncing a few things off anyone who will listen with an open mind.
And yes, Kevin's truck did impress me, a beautiful build.

How much are you wanting to tow? I agree, an AOD is not likely a good choice for real towing, I don't know much about the E4OD's. On the other hand, a 4L80 (GM) would be good for probably a 10k trailer load. Ford has some good ZF manual trannies but that adds complications. What about a Chev diesel with Allison??
I know where there's a monkey face F-5 DRW just waiting for some TLC...
But seriously, here you go: 1949 Ford F4 dually!!

I want something that will tow 10Klbs so the AOD is out. The E40D and the later variation is a decent tranny, used in cars and light trucks, thru the 350 series. The very early units needed upgrades to be stout. But it is not like I am hard on equipment.
There is a local municipality that was clearing out some of those Chebbys, some diesel and some gas but I believe I snoozed too long.
Weighing my options is half the fun. Thanks for the tip, link to the truck.
Oh yeah, I remember that F-5
