Extended Warranty, to buy or not to buy

It was a no brainer to me
I bought the 6 year 125,000
It cost 2505.00
These trucks cost way to much to fix if they break
I think the 6.7 is a better motor then the 6.4 but still has some issues and I am sure more issues will show up as owners start to get higher miles on them
I just put the 2500.00 into the payment it hurts less that way
Either way good luck...

I based my decision on the fact that I intend to have the truck for at least 100,000 miles, so
I have the 200,000 mile diesel care plus for the engine and 5 year 100,000 mile premium care package for the rest of the truck.
It's a peace of mind thing for me, but if I decide to sell the truck I suspect that the ESP's will add value if it is sold to an individual because the plans can be transferred. If traded in at the dealership I can get a pro rated portion of what I paid back.

I know this has been discussed before, but I still wonder - when during the life of the factory warranty does it make sense to buy the extended warranty? Since there is no risk to the extended warranty provider until the factor warranty is over, why I should I give them the premium now? Is it cheaper the newer the truck?

I did the extra care since the PCM is the only additional component covered in the Premium care. Transmission and other drivetrain components are about the same on both covering all the BIG stuff from what I could see in a side by side. I don't have all the fancy electronics so the added benefit of the Premium was little to no benefit to me.
I noticed they all cover the Diesel Injectors, fuel lines, injector pump, and lift pump, but none cover the HPFP not even the diesel care. Guessing if the HPFP implodes the fuel lines would not be covered. I did see the diesel care can be purchased within the 5/100 engine warranty according to the ford site. Good to know it you decide to keep it.

Big FAT markups on extended warranties, 2500 buck warranty cost the dealer around 1500 bucks.
There are FoMoCo dealers that offer extended warranties for cost +10%, you have to search the net to find them.

We are stuck on the price in FL. Our insurance commissioner regulates the p[rice to MSRP. I see ford dealers selling them online at discounted prices (except FL.).

I did not go with the extended warrenty.
I went with GEIGO mechanical breakdown add on. After reading about what is not covered by Ford I went a different route. I needed absolute coverage of my fuel system from thing like water. It ended up costing less then the extended warranty for 10 years 100k miles of coverage.
You might want to give them a call.

Premium care will take you to whatever length of time/miles you purchased (500+ components).
Diesel engine care plus covers 21 components of the diesel engine to 200,000 miles and must also be purchased before 36k.
The diesel basic care only covers 12 or so engine components if I remember that right.
I thought I could get diesel plus before 100,000 so I missed out since I'm past 36k.
But I can still get diesel basic before 100,000.

Thank you for posting this. I've thought about a used 6.7 and wondered the the mileage cutoffs were for buying the extended warranty.
