Hello everyone. I have a 97 F250 HD with the 7.5, E4OD combo. Want to swap to 94 Cummins and a gas ZF5 (closer ratio than diesel ZF5). I have heard a whisper that have to go same year or newer if making a swap. True?

Thanks to anyone that can help. Shawn
I think it would be that you have to meet the emissions requirements applicable to the year of the vehicle. So if you put a newer motor in an older truck you would only have to meet the emissions requirements for the older truck. Sadly if you do the opposite you have to make the older engine run clean enough to meet the newer truck's requirements.
But that is more opinion that for knowledge of the law here in Arizona. My county doesn't require emissions testing.
I didn't think you had to smog diesels here. I recently moved from Commifornia and they only smogged '98 and newer diesels. I did hear rumors though of AZ switching to the CA rule of a swapped motor needing to be the same year or newer but I'm not sure if that went through. I'd check with the MVD before starting, just to be safe.
