Looking for 1st classic truck
I'm interested in getting my first classic truck. I like the looks of the older trucks. I'd like to find an F100 and rehab it so that it would be a reliable daily driver around my local area.
I live in Calif, so I want a truck 1975 or older so I don't have to deal with smog checks. Ideally I would hope to get a 1965 or 1966, but if the right situation presents itself, I would go up to 1975.
I would like to keep the truck as stock as practical. I would also like the truck to be as good on gas as possible, so I'm thinking a 240 inline six would be the ticket.
My question is- assume I find a decent truck that needs major engine or transmission work, can I purchase a remanufactured 1965 240 inline six that has no emissions control stuff and put it in an F100 from years 1966 - 1975? What kind of modifications would be necessary? If I was replacing an existing inline six, would it just bolt right in?
Thanks for your information and suggestions.
