4.6 detuned?

I currently own a '02 F150 with a 4.6, it has 400,000kms (250,000mi) I've had nothing bad at all to say about this engine but it's getting to be time to replace the old girl so and I'm looking at '04-'08s also with the 4.6.

The problem I'm finding is that all the ones I've test driven all seem like dogs. Compared to my tired old truck, these newer ones feel like a V6.

Has anyone else found this as well?

The '04 and ups weigh about 400lb more given the same body style as the '04 and down heritage body style. More weight with the same power makes for a slower, though more solid, truck.

My '02 is a cab+1/2 long box with 3.27 gears (from an Explorer) most that I've driven have been cab+1/2 short boxes with 3.55s that should more than make up any weight difference. Still find mine has more power.
