First of many 'dumb' questions - how can I tell if the truck is an XL or XLT? I tried looking up the VIN but it doesn't seem to break it down that far that I can tell. I'd like to order a DashMat for instance and they have XL and XLT listed so I'm guessing the dash may be configured differently - Thanks for the shout Neil

Typically the xl will be a rather basic truck. The XLT will usually have some extra options like power windows and locks among other things. For the most part if I remember correctly the dashs would be relatively the same.

Back in your truck's day, there was

Custom, very basic.
Xl. next step up, has rubber floor mats, better seat (usually vinyl) rub trim down body side
Xlt. carpet, 2 tone paint, better door panels, cloth seats rub trim down body sides
Lariat. Same as Xlt, leather seats, premium sound system, sound deadening package. Leather is only available in supercab and crew cab.

The dash is the same through all series, the reason they want you to specify, is to stitch it in in the right hand side of the cover. some companys will let you put your name in this area.

Oh and the Ironic thing, power windows and locks had to be ordered in the f 250 and up trucks. They did not come factory until the Superduty's came in 99.

I agree, my '90 F250 XLT Lariat has manual windows and door locks. ( Charlie saw the truck a few months ago and couldn't believe it) The old guy I bought the truck from told me that when he ordered the truck brand new, it was too expensive at the time to add the 'power package'.

Thanks - it is single paint job kinda orangish/red, cloth seats, carpet - so I guess until someone lays an eyeball on it sounds like it might be the XLT - Charlie what's your zip code?

Sounds like you would have the XLT then.

DUH - It is on the name plate - just not Raised and Chrome stamped like the rest of the fender plate! - so she's an XLT

Charlie: What kind of a schedule do you have? Is there a time that is best that we might meet up and you can show me around my truck? -

This weekend, and the week ahead will be full for me, I have to have everything winterized, and ready for winter. I have another surgery scheduled for 9/24, and will be down for a while again( old farts heal slowly, lol ). Probably 2nd or 3rd week in Oct, I'll at least be on crutches, and semi mobile again. I can answer lots of questions, and look at lots of pictures, as it looks like you have a pretty good grasp on the site.
Bud lives about 5 minutes from me, and has had about every auto and truck ever made, lol ( he has a wrench and isn't afraid to use it). As long as you have no pressing mechanical problems, we can all jump in and point you in the right direction

Nothing major - that I know of - that needs immediate attention. BUT I don't know the truck well enough yet to determine that..... Located a document in the dash and was able to talk to the second owner tonight - guy lives in Marriotsville. learned he didn't push it hard only replaced the h20pump and right frnt bearing. guy after him has not replaced much either - so seems like a strong engine/body or it's saved it all for me and getting ready to take a major dump
