It is a big rig & I don't mind if it is a little stiff or rougher than now. It actually squishy now at times since it has load range D tires on it. Looking at LT295/75r16's to put on all 4 corners. My plan is to do a 12V Cummins swap in the next year or so. This is my first Excursion & really like it. Thanks for advice, info & opinions.

x codes are much stiffer.

I would bet that the x codes would be a little much for a v10. They are fine on the heavier diesels. However there are several guys on here with them on their v10s. It all depends on how you want the truck to ride and if you are going to put a heavy bumper and/or winch on the front. They are not too stiff for the diesel in my opinion but I don't speak from any experience with a v10.

Agree, the x codes gave me about 3"+ in lift and under my 7.3 the ride is awesome, not stiff at all but just the right amount of stability. V codes may be better for a V-10 but you could always look up engine weight compared to a diesel and decide from there. If you are doing the Cummins swap, my opinion would be X codes and not looking back, those Cummins blocks are very heavy

All this time I thought you had a V-10 so now I can see the whole picture a little better.

Due to another thread in the 7.3L forum, I remembered this thread and got curious because I remembered you stated you have X codes on your rig now.

Just FYI, the SD Truck Springs you have are more like V codes.

V codes are 5200/pair, 2600 per.
W codes are 5600/pair, 2800 per.
X codes are 6000/pair, 3000 per.

So the springs you have, item #43-818 rated at 2630 per, are more closely spec'd as a V code.

Ya might wanna change your sig.

If you look, 43-818 is being listed as the same replacement spring for the V code, W code, and X code on the SD spring site.

Hmmmm, I just checked the specs on these too and they are less than a B code. They are actually less than the A code springs on the Ex.

According to the SD truck spring website, part #43-1263 is rated with a 3000lb spring capacity (6,000 for two)

Rear spring codes:
A = F-250 & Excursion (6,084 pounds @ground)
B = F-350 SRW (6,830 pounds @ground)
C = F-350 DRW (8,250 pounds @ground)

Again, just FYI so you know what you have, and for anybody else who reads the thread so they know what they are ordering when they order from a place other than Ford, claiming to have V codes or X codes, etc.

GolfMedic; I am understanding more by the minute why your truck doesn't ride too rough.

I was wondering about this, thats why I asked you about it in that other thread because the ratings from SDsprings and what was said on here weren't matching. So I guess to get true X/C codes I would have to go to the ford dealer.

Another option is to see if you have a local shop will spec out a spring that matches the X codes.

Oh, here we go again. Smooth to you would be bone rattling and teeth jarring to be................not that I haven't had my share of rough riders.

Subscribing...

Getting ready for another spring swap.

Done it once in 2005, now doing it again. But this time it's on not a new Ex, but a 13yo from the N.East... I have a feeling that it won't be that easy this time around...

Keep the info coming!

I ended up with a free set of Superduty springs. I just have no idea which code they are. But they were fairly new looking when I pulled them from the scrap metal bin 2 years ago! Knew they would get used eventually. Now they get to be used on the 00 s/cV10Ex...
