Where to get better driveshaft?

After replacing my CV joint 6 times, i think I'm just going to replace the driveshaft. I think the joints I'm buying just aren't fitting right, but in case it's just worn out, I'm going to replace the whole shaft.

Now, I'm also concerned that the angle maxes out and is breaking the center yoke. Does anyone know where I can find a longer driveshaft or one with better angles? I have a 6'' lift in the rear with a ton of travel.. also wouldn't mind one with bigger u-joints. I don't want to spend more then $300 or so.. was gonna buy the one from Broncograveyard, but I'm gonna flip if the first time I jump my Bronco if I break that cv joint again!

It also just might be the 35'' tires and how hard I push it, so tougher would definitely be better. I don't really have the option of going to a local shop, they tried to charge me $300 just to change the CV joint, dunno how crazy they would get if I asked them to build me a custom shaft. I KNOW someone out there has to sell them on the internet, right?

for a 1990 Bronco.. thanks all!

time to ask some local offroad shops who they use for this type of thing. I would imagine you have a driveline shop somewhere close. look into having them add about 1" to the length also, i did this with the last rear shaft i purchased and feel its help a lot with how its holding up.

Maybe this place can ship one?
Drivelines Northwest - Applications

I have heard good things but they aren't really cheap and i don't know if you can buy online and ship it. Do you have the kind of driveline that sort of slides? Like it can be extended or shortened with the travel of the axle?

Oreillys is a lifetime warranty, I could break it all I want and get a replacement.. however, I did find this: Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts - Tom Woods Custom Drive Shafts Custom Driveshafts Specialist

Been in and out of the hospital and was at the Dr all day today, I did e-mail the guy but if he doesn't answer tomorrow I'm going to call him. Looks like he has many methods to increase angle and the shafts look really reasonably priced.

edit: and yes, I have a slip yoke. I'm not sure it needs lengthened, it never comes close to coming out of the yoke. Not even sure if it needs more angle, I'm just blaming this for the constant CV joint breakage. Pinion angle is good and everything too

What is your pinion angle like. You could shim it up and get rid of some stress on the CV joint if you haven't tried that already. I called High Angle Driveline about one of the higher angle CV joints thinking that would be the cure but I was informed that I would not be happy with it as a street driven truck.

I was going to go with Tom Woods, but he wanted me to measure mine and check angle and stuff.. been so busy catching up after being sick, I just said screw it and bought the one from O'Reillys.

It turned out pretty good.. not driven with it yet, but it's defintiely better build quality than stock. Has zerk for slip joint, has a smaller seal that doesn't hold water like my current one did, overall smoother finish, cleaner welds, cleaner cuts.. just really good quality for a 'reman'.

Lifetime warranty and they can get me a new one in 3 hours, so I can tear as many u-joints as I want up on the trial, break the cv joint every time I jump it and can just swap it out.

Yeah.. I did good..

was so excited, I was gonna go fishing the other night. Did an oil change, did the driveshaft, tightened up my wheel bearing again (grrr, think the spindle threads are stripped), went to start the Bronco and it cranked slow.. had left the radio on while working, also haven't been driving it much, just not enough juice to start it.
Jumped it and my dang starter stuck, burned through the jumper cables (cheapy charging kind)
I think it's the solenoid because it's been sitting.. of course it wiped out my battery, hoping it will be okay since it's a deep cycle but even deep cycles don't like being killed so bad the dang lights wont come on even dim!

Just got a new videocard today, Radeon 7850 (yay... PC part for those that don't know).. split on which is more exciting, going out and putting on my new solenoid, jumping the bronco and taking it on a test drive to test out my new driveshaft, driving it for the first time since I bought it with a vibration free driveshaft (im excited, it has NEVER been zero play) or playing games with my new videocard all day.

I like these kinds of tough decisions

same one.. did you notice how much beefier and cleaner it looked than stock as well? I know sometimes these kinda parts can come from completely different manufacturers, so I might have got lucky.

and I swear it's a tad longer than the stock one. Definitely disconnected further down the shaft at the splines.. i'd bet angle is better too but it was impossible to tell because of how gone my cv was.

edit: one thign I didn't like, all the u-joints were greasable in the body.. I prefer non-greasable or just ones with holes in the cap for strength.

Oh yeah. Yeah the greaseable u-joints a pain but hey...it works. LOL.
