rear end swap 3.08's to 3.55's

Got a 97' with 4.2 v6 and 3.08 gears. I need a little lower gear for towing our trailer. I found a complete 99' 8.8" with 3.55's, but it has disc brakes and my rear is drums. Also found a 2000 f150 rear as well. I've read that only 97'-99's interchange and 2000-2003 interchange. Is this true? What is the difference?

Can I just unbolt and swap the drum brakes onto the disc rear end? Are rear axle housing identical?

Or, what do I have to do to install the rear disc rear end? Just swap the master cylinder? Will it affect any type of computer controlled sensor/etc?

Thanks in advance.
