SCANNER NOT COMMUNICATING WITH PCM...7.3

03 7.3. No mods,all stock. Ive chekd 4 power at pin 16,cleaned all grounds,pcm swap from another 03. Pcm is of the vdh5 family,still not leting me communicate. Im useing a snap-on modis. Unplugged fuel bowl heater,fuses good,relays good. All the usual test procedure is outta the way. Wicha way now?

When I couldn't connect the cig lighter fuse was blown. Could be a bent pin or bad connection at the plug itself also.(check pin lengths) I take it the scanner works on other vehicles.

Ive checked those pins. Thers power to the lighter

I just bought another computer and my AE would not communicate with the PCM. I forgot to remove the firewall from the computer. After disabling the firewall, all is good.

Pin 16 has power so no blown fuse.

There are other reference voltages and grounds to check for.

Maybe this will help.

Anytime I had that problem it was a fuse, maybe another fuse also has some control over it.

Good stuff right there man. So,continuity needs to be checked. Also,short to ground?

No,im stuck. And this is what I do 4 a living. I own a shop in b-ham alabama. Specializeing in 6.0s mainly. 7.3 is a no brainer.

Im diggin tho. Ill find it. If I gotta pop the motor and take the truck harness out,ill find it. Any more ideas?

516 31st b-ham. Diesel worx is the name of our shop. Do u need a mechanic? Or help with somthin? dont hesitate to come by or ask man. Thats why im here. My number is 205-675-4617.

Yup,what I got here is a wiring gremlin. I think a ground might be the cause. Ill find it.

that 16 pinout is diffrent from what im looking at. What year is that obd2 there in the pic?

I figured this S.O.B figured out. Idm relay clicking rapidly. Ive run into this once before,on a 6.0. Modual to modual communication. Idm was fried. I guess telln the pcm its not grounded. Who the hell knos. Id dig deeper,jus tired of that dam truck. Anyhow,i replaced the idm with the 100 or so I have lyin around the shop and wah lah. Thanx 4 the help guys
