I towed my 27' travel trailer from Birmingham to Nashville today- basically uphill the whole way- i was towing between 65-70 mph, and was happy with that.....thought i was doing well. Then a 6.7 passed me easily also towing a similar camper, and he just eventually disappeared. I love my 7.3, but wow... of course, i dont recommend towing that fast, but....wow.

My dad bought his '99 7.3 13 years ago and it just hit 200k. The other day he asked me what I thought about the 2010s and I told him I would rather have the 2012. Two days later I went to his house and his 99 was sitting in the yard which I thought was weird...until I went in the garage and saw a new dark blue 2012 PSD. I took it for a drive and wow, I want one. Originally he said he would use keep the 99 for a farm truck and towing wagons, livestock trailer, etc and the 12 would be for daily driving and road trips. I talked to him this weekend and he is putting a gooseneck ball in and ordered new 2.5" receivers for it, he just couldn't let all that power, brake controller, and exhaust brake go to waste. I think my favorite feature besides the power is Sync, I just love being able to stream Slacker radio through my phone.

I feel like I am late to the party, my first 7.3 this month and I drove the new and loved it, but the price is equally impressive in a bad way, lol..

He got a 2011 (new,10 miles)lariat crew for 42,000 after rebates and his trade was 15000.. His payment is under 500 month.. So if you can find a leftover 2011 the deals are there..

still, its 500 a month,If it was me, i would stick with the tried and true..
when I looked at a new truck,I decided to pay myself the payment and get my truck the way I want.the new trucks are nice and you can find a deal, around here the 12's are 50,000 plus so with the right down payment/trade in i could see 500 mo payments + higher ins payment..
I have had car/truck payments for 20 years and don't want anymore..
After 3 years I have replaced/rebuilt everything on my 03 from bumper to bumper and its mine..Not to mention the no payment thing really helps with fuel prices and maintaince/upgrades in the future
Just my .02

But others could. Or just revive that little 4.4 they were talking about. I'll take 300 hp and a stick with some focus on fuel economy over the biggest, baddest, truck of the month that cost more than my first house.

(Yes I realize I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought we cared about minority rights )

Its all relative. The cost of a Ford in 2002 was as much as my first house too. So in 10 yrs we get to see if they cost as much as someone elses first house today. I bet- yes it will.

Bought a 2011 new.. Couldnt resist.Great deal. Got 14,500 for mine plus 6000 in dealer rebates and 200 over invoice.I loved my truck but this thing is pretty sweet.I see everyones point of view here as well but made a decision and went with it.Plan to keep it for atleast ten yrs or more.Looking forward to our trip from connecticut to mertyl beach with our camper.Anyways if anyone is in the market for a dp tuner with 80e ,60 tow and drive thru ,all no codes I have it listed in the marketplace...Also have a bakflip bed cover hardtop for short cab for sale..

I understand the price issue. That's not my complaint. I just don't want to pay that much unless I can get the options I want. When I ordered my 02, I was able to choose options like carpet delete, stick shift, etc. They had gotten rid of the rear bumper delete option by then, but I could live with that.

Now it's here's what we're going to give you, not what options do you want. That's when I have a problem laying down that kind of money. Heck, I looked at a Dodge once years ago and told them I wanted captains chairs. They said, here's our seat. It comes in vinyl, cloth and leather. No options on what kind of seat you get to sit your but on other than that. I told them I wouldn't spend 35k on a truck that I couldn't choose my own seats.

This is all a very good point but as for me, i cant see spending that kind of money for a vehicle that i cant get exactally what i want. Such as
a stick, carpet delete, rearend locking ratio i want, and when i visit the 6.7 forum i read a whole lot more reasons i don't want one. They haven't been proven reliable yet in my book. Look at the 6.0, it was here a few years and gone with a lot of problems. The 6.4 was here and gone, now the 6.7 offers the question of how long will it last. my .02 is there is a lot of variables to be considered so to answer the OP, I wouldn't do it.
