First thought was that this article was written in 2008. Second is that it should be a progressive time line; dropping the requirement every few years. Just not that many "older junkers" out there; it's all about $$$'s . It's always about the $$$'s.....

This jazz has been disgused in the CA Legislature over the past several years, but no action has been taken...yet.

When I first heard about this, have typed the info here on FTE warning CA peeps NOT to throw away any of the smog equipment they have removed, because...

The Truth About Cars has jumped the gun, because this bill has not been voted on yet and only pertains to 8 San Joachin Valley counties.

'Course, if it passes, you can bet the farm other CA counties will introduce similar bills.

For all you young un's out there, at one time CA smog tested all 1950 and newer vehicles. I don't recall when this jazz went into effect, but I think it was around 1968.

All vehicles had to have the PCV and the awful NOX devices installed. PCV was mandatory in all vehicles sold new in CA beginning in 1961, but was not mandatory in other states until the late 1960's.

No 1967 or earlier vehicles came w/a NOX device, so it had to be installed on all 1950/67's and 1968 and subsquent year vehicles that didn't come with it.

NOX: The device was spliced into the upper radiator hose, had vacuum lines connected to it that routed to the carb & dizzy. Some peeps installed the terds, then removed them after the vehicles passed inspection.

Wonder if the MSD fuel injection unit would take care of the emissions problem?
