well we used the old ford to tow our boat to the lake on some of the most rough dirt roads around. just miles of washboard just beat the vehicles to pecies... well the ford did better than the dodge besides that the windshield wipers didnt work and it started to pour on the way down the highway. fixed that halfway there... an un pluged wire. on the way back the right front brake cylynder went out so we just replaced both the front brake cylynders yesterday as well as put some used tires on it for temporary use. flushed the radiator and lubed all the door hinges and latches. today my dad took the truck to a bunch of retired ford raceing mechanic tecs. these guys have all the best tools and they are all on my dads bosses drag race team so he got a free diagnosis on the knocking tick. they said that the lower rod bearing on the number two piston is going out. so this week we have to replace the bearing. also they noted that the oil pressure is a bit to low and we need to get a new oil pump. since we r getting the truck fixed up to tow the boat and for my dad to use he said he is paying for all the mecanicle stuff for now. hope to get it fixed soon cause the dodge is at the mechanics.

any advice on a higher pressure/volume oil pump?
also know anything bout replacing lower rod bearings?

well we fixed the rod bearing. turns out it was the upper bearing on the wrist pin. replaced just that one and the oil pump. oil psi's at 80 again. rebuilt the carb yesterday and it runs like a dream. now we r thinking about getting the airconditioning fixed. the expansion valve is pluged and it needs converting. anybody know what to do? the ac pump has been taken off the belts so it wont be turning unnesicarily. any advice to get it running? might just take it to a shop and have it redone.

I would do that as these trucks when a/c was found in them were typically aftermarket installations or dealer installed...I would let a reputable shop fix it...just beware it wont be a cheap fix...

Thumbs up YOU have got that right, John ...$ can go real fast ...

You have some large plans, before you go further, how much money will you have to spend on your project over the next year?

I suspect unless you are wealthy this project can run way more than your high school budget.

Do you have $500.00, $1000.00, $5000.00, $10,000.00 to spend???

right now there is no budget for getting the truck to run. iv seen how fast motors can chew up money. this ford ate up over $500 in just two weeks for one lousy upper rod bearing!!!!! and we spend somthing like almost ten grand a year keeping our dirt bikes in operable condition. i dont know what the boat uses... but right now we r just getting the truck to run. my dad is on an airconditioning kick. he wants every a/c he owns and uses (including a company logging truck) to work, and work realy good.
